CAS is hosting the 25th Annual High School Arts Awards Banquet on Tuesday, April 7, 2020, at the Aqua Turf club in Plantsville. This prestigious recognition dinner, sponsored by Jostens and Horace Mann, honors high school seniors who excel in the performing and/or visual arts. Each CAS member high school is invited to select two grade 12 students for recognition.

This year’s keynote speaker is Hong Hong, a visual artist who creates site-responsive, monumental paper-works. In her nomadic practice, Tibetan and Japanese papermaking techniques coalesce with feminist rituals and performances. Each sheet of paper begins outdoors and uses materials sourced from the landscapes surrounding the object.  Recent projects have been exhibited at the Georgia Museum of Art, Real Art Ways (Hartford), the New Mexico History Museum, and the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts. She has received institutional support from such organizations as the Foundation for Contemporary Arts, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Connecticut Office of the Arts, Artspace New Haven, and the Edward C. & Ann T. Roberts Foundation. Hong Hong holds a BFA in Painting and Drawing from the State University of New York at Potsdam, and an MFA in Painting and Drawing from the Lamar Dodd School of Art at the University of Georgia in Athens.
