Greenwich and Simsbury Students Win October Debate Tournaments
On October 12, thirty schools and 366 debaters participated in the Connecticut Debate Association’s tournaments at AITE and Farmington High School, a new record for October. Thanks to coaches Claude Morest and Joel Nick for their hospitality.
The topic was:
Resolved: All schools in the United States should be required to teach to a common academic standard.
The final round at AITE was won by the Greenwich team of Nick Abbott and Rebecca Murray on Negative over the Greenwich team of Marley MacDougall and Robby Shavel.
The final round at Farmington was won by the Simsbury team of Kevin Gyurco and Matthew Shaw on Negative over the Hamden team of Henry Hansen and Colette Kroop.

The next tournaments are on November 16 at New Canaan High School and Amity High School. The invitation should go out on or about November 3 and registration opens on November 4.
