ANSONIA >> Pink, pink, and more pink.

That was the theme of the fourth annual pink volleyball tournament at Emmett O’Brien Technical High School.

The gym was filled with school spirit, lots of it, as students and staff celebrated Emmett O’Brien Goes Pink Day, part of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The tournament lasted all day with 18 teams participating.

The event raised $1,450 for the Hewitt Center for Breast Wellness at Griffin Hospital in Derby. That is up from $1,000 raised for the center last year.

“We have a lot of enthusiasm from students,” said Debra Anderson, director of counseling and admissions. “It’s a collaboration between the National Honor Society and the Key Club, and it’s organized by Athletic Director Dan Nemergut.”

She said the event has grown in popularity over the years. Anderson added that the cheerleaders created a “fight breast cancer cheer” for the tournament.
