Act now! Tell Congress to stop education cuts!

A call to action from our national affiliate . . .

The federal government is operating under a Continuing Resolution (CR) that will expire on January 15. Unless Congress comes to an agreement on a federal budget before then, we will continue operating under a CR and sequestration will continue to slash investments in education. Education programs have been cut multiple times in the past two and a half years, including $1.5 billion in combined cuts from the FY 2011 CR and the FY 2012 omnibus. The sequester cuts slashed another $2.4 billion from education programs including Title I, IDEA and career and technical education programs in addition to $401 million from Head Start. These waves of cuts have come at a time when enrollments have increased at both the K-12 and higher education levels and schools, students, colleges, libraries and museums have endured deep state and local budget cuts.

Enough is enough! Congress must stop abdicating its responsibility and pass a budget which sets the fiscal priorities for the nation and education should be one of them. Tell Congress to stop cutting education and invest in our nation’s children and schools!

NASSP believes Congress must prioritize federal investments in education by replacing sequestration with a sensible, sustainable and balanced plan that reduces the deficit and stops cuts to education.

Please send an email to your Members of Congress today telling them to stop these senseless cuts to education and come up with a sensible and balanced budget plan.

Thank you in advance for your advocacy on this important issue.
