West Hartford Administrator Named Outstanding First-Year Principal

The Connecticut Association of Schools (CAS) is pleased to announce that Sarah Isaacs, principal of William Hall High School in West Hartford, has been named the 2026 Outstanding First-Year Principal. Isaacs, a former language arts teacher, was an assistant principal at Hall before stepping into the principalship.

In her first full year as principal, Isaacs has demonstrated a clear focus on relationships, student voice, and school culture. During the site visit, students, staff, and families consistently described her as accessible, genuine, and deeply committed to the school community. Students highlighted the impact of “Titan Talks,” an informal opportunity for students to chat with Isaacs about events impacting school and climate, noting that they feel heard and are able to engage in meaningful conversations about complex issues. Staff emphasized her visibility, steady communication, and collaborative approach, while families pointed to the strong sense of connection and trust she has established.

Isaacs’ leadership was especially evident in her response to a recent tragedy involving the loss of a Hall student. Across all groups, there was universal appreciation for her calm, compassionate presence and the care and intentionality with which she supported all students, staff, and families.

Isaacs has also introduced the Trailblazers program, designed to connect a targeted group of students more deeply to their school and community. Launched with a cohort of 10 students, the program has already shown strong outcomes, reinforcing students’ sense of belonging and engagement.

In addition, Isaacs has led key instructional work, including the implementation of the Breaking Bias program in partnership with the University of Connecticut. The initiative engages students and staff in learning around identity, antiracism, and empathy, contributing to a stronger and more inclusive school culture.

“I am truly appreciative of this honor and deeply humbled. This recognition reflects the incredible students, educators, and community at the heart of Hall High School,” said Isaacs.

The Outstanding First-Year Principal Award recognizes a school leader who demonstrates strong leadership, fosters a positive school climate, and makes a meaningful impact in their first year. Isaacs will be honored at the CAS Annual Conference. The selection process for this award includes statewide nominations, followed by the identification of two finalists. A CAS visiting committee then conducts site visits at each school, meeting with small groups of students, staff, and families to better understand each principal’s impact.
