SDE Issues Guidance on Changes in PD Requirements

On September 21st, the Connecticut State Department of Education issued a guidance memo on the changes to requirements for the professional educator certificate and the new professional development requirements set forth in Public Act 12-116.

The memo helps to explain the new law and what the expectation is going forward for the completion of professional development activities to be offered by Connecticut school districts effective July 1, 2013. The education reform bill gives rise to a number of substantive changes in professional development provisions, including the elimination of the requirement for professional educator certificate holders to complete 9.0 CEUs during the 5-year period for which the professional educator certificate was issued.
