Enfield Restaurateur Honored For Helping Developmentally Disabled Students
The owner of a popular local diner was recognized last week for his contribution to the Enfield school system.
Joe Ravalese, owner of the Country Diner at 111 Hazard Ave., was a co-recipient of the Connecticut Association of Schools’ “Distinguished Friend of Education Award.”
Ravalese, a retired Enfield police officer, has been involved in the Enfield Transitional Learning Academy since it opened over 10 years ago. Ravalese hires ETLA students to work at his restaurant.
The ETLA program “provides extended learning experiences for students with significant developmental disabilities,” according to a statement from Enrico Fermi High School Principal Paul Newton. Fewer than 20 students are in the ETLA program, which provides learning opportunities for 18- to 21-year-old students with learning disabilities.
