Dodd Middle School Earns the Arthur Director Leadership Award

Eight members of the Kids Care Club

The Dodd Kids Care Club at Dodd Middle School in Cheshire was the most recent recipient of the Arthur Director Student Leadership Award. The award, named for the founder of Connecticut Lighting Centers, recognizes the Connecticut middle school that best employs the Middle Level Leadership Conference slogan of “Making Acceptance Acceptable.”

A plaque and a check supporting the club’s work were presented by Mr. Director to Ms. Kathleen Scully, counselor and advisor, and to eight members of the club.

Among the projects the club initiated and carried out were:

  • positive messaging via poster and broadcast of kindness quotes and videos over the daily morning media broadcast “Spartan Live;”
  • sponsoring guest speakers to address student assemblies on the subjects of cyber safety and respecting diversity;
  • creating and mailing greeting cards to over 75 students and staff who have experienced extended illness or suffered loss in their families; and,
  • organizing a school-wide Random Acts of Kindness campaign.
