THIRTY-FIRST ANNUAL ATHLETIC DIRECTOR CONFERENCE
On March 26 & 27, athletic directors from around the state will be holding their annual conference at the Sheraton Hartford South in Rocky Hill, Connecticut. This two-day conference provides an outstanding educational in-service program for all Connecticut athletic directors. Modeled after the national athletic directors conference held annually in December, this year’s state conference will offer coaching education instructor training, nationally known speakers, professional development workshops and seminars, and a sport product exhibit show. In the evening of the first day of the conference, the annual awards banquet takes place. Each year, the Connecticut Association of Athletic Directors (CAAD) recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributors to the field of athletic administration. Being recognized at this year’s banquet are: Distinguished Service Award Recipient – Betty Remigino Knapp; NIAAA State Award of Merit Recipient – Chris Manfredonia; Robert Duncanson Meritorious Service Award Recipient – Mark Snyder; and Past-President Award Recipient – Brian Fell. Also being recognized at the banquet are the high school students who were selected to represent Connecticut in the NIAAA Essay Scholarship Award Program.
On Wednesday, March 25, prior to the start of the conference, CAAD offers NIAAA Leadership Training Courses (LTCs) for athletic administrators. These courses provide the athletic administrator the opportunity to enhance his/her own professional development as well as work toward national certification. The LTC courses that will be offered are LTI 620 – Concussion Assessment and Management and the Proper Fitting of Athletic Protective Equipment; and LTC 703 – Student Centered Educational Athletic Performance Beyond the X’s and O’s.
The conference is a “must-attend” for all athletic directors. It’s a great opportunity to gain knowledge on issues of concern to athletic directors, share experiences with peers, and to garner insight and information to better serve their school districts. Registration information and forms have been sent out to all athletic directors. Online registration is also available at: www.caadinc.org/conference.html.
