Next Generation Science Standards Pre-Adoption Webinar

The Connecticut State Board of Education is considering the adoption of Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) as one pillar in a statewide effort to improve STEM education and keep Connecticut’s students nationally and globally competitive. During this pre-adoption phase, the State Department of Education is endeavoring to engage with a group of stakeholders regarding the implications, benefits and challenges of adopting NGSS. The goal is to engender the same broad-based support that the recently-adopted Social Studies Framework received.

The medium for the first phase of engagement was a pre-adoption webinar. The purpose of the webinar was to give a select group of CAS principals an overview of the NGSS standards, respond to questions, and collect feedback. Webinar presenters explained how the new science learning goals would build upon Connecticut’s current science standards and how science teaching and learning will look quite different. The webinar is now archived and is available to all CAS principals & assistant principals at the urls below.
